Hillside Residence

The Sisters of Providence

New Construction

West Springfield, MA

A new 36 Unit affordable, senior housing facility that was designed to include an emerging trend in senior housing, which is a complete health-care facility in one campus.

The Sisters of Providence had a vision for the former Brightside Campus in West Springfield, MA and that was to transform it from an abandoned and under-utilized area into a place where seniors could live comfortably and have all the services they need.

In 1873, the Sisters of Providence accepted their first orphan and in 1881 they established Brightside for Families and Children, as an orphanage.  It has been a healing and transforming presence in the lives of the youth and families in Western Massachusetts ever since. For many decades, the Brightside campus functioned as a place where young people and their families could receive the housing and support they need. With services evolving and relocating the campus was in need of a new purpose.

Rebranded as the Hillside at Providence the campus now is focused on providing services to seniors and the Hillside Residence is a key piece in this transformation. With the 36 one bedroom units, the respite units and an abundance of community and meeting spaces seniors can live independently.

Combined with the recently completed DePaul Center project, the Hillside campus provides for aging in place, adult day care, medical offices and respite facilities for seniors who have recently been discharged from the hospital, but are not yet able to return home.
