Webster Lake House

New Construction

Webster, MA

The homeowners had been visiting Webster Lake in Massachusetts for several years during the summer. There are very few undeveloped waterfront lots on the lake and when one became available they quickly jumped at the opportunity.

The challenge became, how to design a house on a  narrow lot, which takes advantage of the lake views. The house also needed to be a place where the homeowners could retire to, that didn’t feel too large when there were no guests - yet still have the room needed for their children, grandchildren, large family and many close friends.

By strategically arranging the form and layout of the house I was able to design it in such a way that every room has a view of the lake. Directing your attention to those lake views in each room it results in the house feeling much larger than it actually is.

The primary bedroom is located on the main floor level to allow for aging in place, while guest bedrooms on the second floor allow for privacy.

The large kitchen and adjacent open dining room area is separated from the living room space by a stair and the bathroom which allows for multiple groups of people to gather while still allowing the house to feel open.

A large deck provides lots of room for grilling and outdoor dining while the patio area below provides a shaded gathering area at the yard.

The second floor includes two guest bedrooms, a guest bathroom and an office area to allow for remote working, which can also be converted into additional sleeping space if needed.

The walk out basement provides plenty of storage for fishing and boating gear and an half bath that allows for party guests to use the bathroom while not having to walk up to the main level.

Since the completion, the clients have both retired and are enjoying their lives in their lakehouse and they spend their time fishing, boating, catching up with old friends, reading a good book out on the deck over looking the lake and spending time with their family and grandchildren.
